At NCoC, we’re committed to full participation in our democracy and communities. An important part of this participation is fostering inclusive physical and digital spaces for people to interact.
We’re excited to partner in a new, important project: Civic Signals. Led by Eli Pariser and Talia Stroud at the Center for Media Engagement at the University of Texas, this effort connects a multidisciplinary community of designers, technologists, and community leaders to build flourishing, public-friendly digital spaces.
Building from the robust civic health data, Civic Signals taps into the wisdom of physical spaces and community engagement to envision better digital spaces.
Throughout 2020, we’ll share more about our findings and build opportunities for people to collaborate in this effort. To start, here are ways to learn more about the project:
- Civicsignals.org is the home for this initiative. Hear Eli’s newly released TED Talk about ‘Digital Urban Planning’ and learn what’s at stake and what you can do about it.
- Help us collectively imagine new digital spaces by submitting a real or imagined example of a vibrant, livable online space.
- Sign up for updates on our “Platforms as Cities” gathering in the spring of 2020.
- Follow along and take part in the conversations on Twitter and Instagram and follow Talia and Eli.
We look forward to sharing more about this work. If you have any questions, reach out to conference@ncoc.org.
