KPMG LLP, the audit, tax and advisory firm (www.kpmg.com/us), is the U.S. member firm of KPMG International Cooperative (“KPMG International.”) KPMG International’s member firms have 145,000 people, including more than 8,000 partners, in 152 countries.

At KPMG, we understand that our business depends on the quality of our corporate citizenship – how we impact communities, our people, our clients, and our world. Our corporate citizenship framework is made up of elements such as Community Involvement, Philanthropy, Global Programs, Corporate Governance, Employer of Choice Programs, Commitment to the Environment, and more.

Our people get involved in hundreds of citizenship projects around the world, and our member firms are developing initiatives to support their local communities and environments. Below are highlights of some of our U.S. and local Philadelphia initiatives:

Family for Literacy
KPMG’s Family for Literacy was created to combat childhood illiteracy and put new books into the homes of underserved children throughout the U.S. In collaboration with First Book, KPMG’s Family for Literacy has established programs in more than 40 U.S. offices and provided more than 1.5 million new books to low-income children. Locally in Philadelphia, KPMG employees and family members have purchased new books and distributed thousands of them to area needy children through programs at the Free Library, The Honickman Center of Project H.O.M.E., and the Russell Byers Charter School.

9/11 Service in Remembrance
Last year, KPMG launched a nationwide employee volunteer campaign, titled “Service in Remembrance,” to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11. As part of the campaign, thousands of KPMG partners and employees volunteered at more than 200 non-profits across the country.

Locally, our commemoration tribute at Dilworth Plaza outside of Philadelphia’s City Hall, honored first responders and those who died on 9/11. Philadelphia’s Mayor Nutter and the police and fire commissioner were in attendance, and students led us in a pledge of allegiance under a giant flag.

In addition, through grassroots fundraising efforts and firm contributions, KPMG has given more than $1 million to help fund the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero in New York and contributed to the Pentagon Memorial.

Community Giving Campaign
The Community Giving Campaign is conducted in tandem with local office volunteer activities, giving our partners and employees an opportunity to augment their service to the community with financial support. KPMG’s partners and employees in the U.S. donated more than $8.2 million to the KPMG Community Giving Campaign in 2011.

The personal engagement of our people exemplifies KPMG’s core values and our understanding of the crucial relationship between businesses and society in creating a sustainable future.
