This year, for the first time, the Conference is being held outside Washington DC. The 2011 Conference will consist of a series of events to be held during Citizenship week, beginning September 15 in Philadelphia and culminating September 22-23 in Arizona. NCoC is honored to be working in collaboration with the Center for the Future of Arizona (CFA) as its 2011 Conference Host partner. NCoC issued an RFP for Conference partners, and ~1@BODYURL[id=114kcurl95]@ from a large pool of applicants from across the country.

Theme
Our theme is “Redefining America’s Social Compact” and will delve into the revised roles of the citizenry, business, nonprofits, and government in a 21st Century democracy.

Agenda
The following events are being planned in association with the 66th Annual National Conference on Citizenship:

September 15: Civic Innovators Forum (At Capacity)
Location: National Constitution Center, Philadelphia
Anticipated Time: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Description: This is the 3rd Annual Forum, which discusses the trends and opportunities surrounding civic and social innovation.
Convening partners: The Case Foundation and Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement (in partnership with the National Constitution Center). This event will also serve as the release of a new civic learning report, released in partnership with the Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools and the Lenore Annenberg Institute for Civics at the Annenberg Public Policy Center.
Featured speakers: Jean and Steve Case (2011 Joseph H. Kanter Citizen of the Year Award recipients)

September 16: Press Conference announcing release of annual research reports
Location: National Constitution Center, Philadelphia
Anticipated time: 9 a.m.
Convening partner: National Constitution Center

September 16-21: “The Civic Connector”
Location: Online Forum
Description: NCoC.net will feature commentary from a prominent sector leader. The commentator will write a commentary based on a question that will also be asked to conference panelists. Commentators will solicit public feedback on examples, stories, and best practices that demonstrate that theory or concept. These responses will help form the basis for the conversation to occur during the conference events in Arizona.

September 22: Arizona Day of Civic Action

Convening partners: Center for the Future of Arizona, Arizona Town Hall, Flinn Foundation, Girl Scouts/Cactus Pine Council, Valley Leadership, The O’Connor House

Description: Programming will include panels focusing on civic insights and leadership, as well as the annual Arizona Town Hall luncheon.

September 22: “Exploring Metrics of Civic Success” (by invitation)
Location: ASU, Phoenix
Anticipated time: 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Description: This session will discuss the strengths, weaknesses, and future of the civic information infrastructure.
Convening partners: the Civic Health Index state and local partners, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Center for the Future of Arizona

September 22: Premiere Discussion on Civility and Political Discourse
Location: ASU, Phoenix
Anticipated time: 3:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. (reception to follow)
Convening partner: Bipartisan Policy Center
Description: This discussion on civility and political discourse will bring together federal, state and local level politicians, members of the media, civic leaders and business/social innovators for a frank discussion about the rise of political incivility, the qualities of successful civic leadership, historical bipartisan accomplishments, and the solutions needed to improve a political environment widely seen as beset by gridlock.
Featured speakers: Former Senator Robert Bennett (R-UT); Aaron Brown, PBS (formerly CNN and ABC); Mayor Phil Gordon (D-Phoenix); Sally Rider, National Institute for Civic Discourse; Ted Simons, KAET-TV’s HORIZON; Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ 15)

September 23: “21st Century Expressions of America’s Social Compact”
Location: ASU, Tempe
Anticipated time: 8:00 a.m.-2:15 p.m.
Convening partner: Center for the Future of Arizona
Description: The program will bring together local, regional, and national leaders to talk about creation of civic strategies that help communities thrive. It will also feature awards presentations, the release of the Arizona Civic Health Index, and more.

Transportation
All events on September 22 are being held within walking distance of the Wyndham Hotel. On September 23, shuttle service will be provided from the hotel to the ASU Tempe campus in the morning, and back to the hotel upon conclusion of the programming.
