Here’s how much North Carolinians trust the media (and other findings from a new study of ‘civic health’)

North Carolinians are less likely than other U.S. residents to trust the media, according to a new report. Only 49 percent of Tar Heel State residents trust the media, compared to the national average of 55 percent, according to the 2015 N.C. Civic Health Index. N.C. State University’s Institute of Emerging Issues produced the report with the National Conference on Citizenship. Released at the Institute for Emerging Issues’ 30 th Annual Emerging Issues Forum, it highlights the ways that North Carolina residents are Ñ and are not Ñ engaged in their communities. Among North Carolina residents: -25 percent participate in church, synagogue or mosque beyond simple service attendance. National average: 19.4 percent. -17.7 percent participate in school, neighborhood or community groups or associations. National average: 13.9 percent. -53.3 percent donate $25 or more to charitable organizations. National average: 50.1 percent.
